Why would I guarantee the profitability of a single trade to a group of 200 traders and potentially have to pay that 200 traders a total of $175,000 if it didn’t work out? I had extreme confidence in the trade. I am going to give you the trade right now... One contract in heating oil has the same volume as one contract in crude oil. It takes approximately three barrels of crude oil to produce one barrel of heating oil. It is further estimated that marketing and distribution make up 42% of the price of heating oil. Therefore, it is a dramatic anomaly to see the price of heating oil at or below the price of crude oil in the futures market. This was exactly the case at the time. The trade was to buy heating oil and sell crude oil and wait for the anomaly to correct itself. It took less than 3-weeks to generate a healthy profit on this trade. Are there other opportunities like this? Absolutely. This type of trading is what I call Smart Trading and requires some sort of factual basis as its foundation. The foundation of the energy trade was based on the fact that one barrel of heating oil costs more to produce than one barrel of crude oil. There are many, many opportunities with foundations based on fact every year. How did I go an entire year without suffering a loss while racking up 42 winning trades in a row (actual trades, not hypothetical)? I approach option trading in much the same way I approach the “Smart Trades”. I look at the mathematical probabilities and use that as a foundation. Few people sell options because it scares them to death. The common fear is taking a big hit...which is very possible...and likely the longer you are involved in option selling. It has always struck me as odd that traders would rather trade a strategy where there is a strong probability that your account will slowly erode away, as if it is better to see losses occur slowly. Yes, option selling has the big hit risk factor, but the probability is in favor of long term success...which means the profits should absorb the hits taken every now and again. The actual, live trades track record shows winning streaks of 33, 21, 17 and the current winning streak is 13. It is Estimated that 90% - 95% Of All Traders LOSE money. If You Trade in a Similar Way, Why Would You Expect Different Results? As you can see, I do things a little differently than what is normal in the trading industry. I started out my trading career much like everyone else...ultimately losing on every venture. In fact, 16 years ago, in the span of 4 months, I turned a $10,000 account into just over $23,000 consistently trading a method I developed. It took the greater part of a whole 2-weeks to see that account drop to less than $2,500. This was the last straw, I decided to do things differently. Since then, I have not been profitable with every trading venture. However, when I try something different, my risk is well-defined and I ALWAYS use my Trade Management Strategy. Because of this, my ultimate profit potential IN EVERY TRADING VENTURE is ALWAYS FAR GREATER than my risk. Further, I NEVER risk a great deal at the beginning. The Trade Management Strategy allows me to START SMALL and if things go well, the Trade Management Strategy puts me in the position to maximize the profit potential WITHOUT increasing the risk on the initial account size. Consider this...I trade 4 strategies implementing my Fixed Ratio Trade Management strategy on each one. On 3 of those strategies, I lose $5,000 (per strategy based on maximum risk per strategy). However, on the 4th strategy, because of my Trade Management Strategy being applied, I make $50,000. Obviously, the greater the probability of success with each individual strategy, the greater the probability of overall success in trading. In fact, with this example, I could lose with 9 different strategies and with one being profitable and come out ahead (all because of my Trade Management Strategy which limits the initial risk of each strategy and maximizes the potential return).
